Automotive parts and scrap metal crushed into the shape of three rectangular prisms.
Three Sentinels transforms crushed automotive components and recycled metal into three upright rectangular forms that stand in quiet alignment. Periman works within the tradition of assemblage—constructing sculpture from found or repurposed materials—revealing new visual possibilities within industrial remnants. The compressed surfaces retain traces of their previous lives, inviting viewers to consider how processes of destruction and reconstruction can coexist within a single object.
Periman writes that if we can learn to value artworks created from discarded materials, “then we can see past the brokenness and pain we see in others and find more peace and love for one another in this world.” The sculpture’s compact forms suggest presence and watchfulness, offering a meditation on transformation, redemption, and renewed meaning.
