Chorus

Sculpture Description

In this strikingly teal-colored sculpture, eight repetative limbs rise, poised together, facing each other as they rejoin in the center.

Artist's Statement

My work illustrates perceptions of community and the relationships of its individuals. The limbs of Chorus represent those individuals. They all arise from the same source, are made of the same components and ascend toward a common goal. This results in the flower we call community. In the work I make I try to capture the energy that is created by the relationship between components coexisting as opposites.

Chorus presents a cluster of curved, rising elements that lean inward as if in dialogue, forming a unified structure from separate components. Dean writes, “My work illustrates perceptions of community and the relationships of its individuals… They all arise from the same source… ascending toward a common goal” resulting in what she calls “the flower we call community.” The sculpture employs biomorphic form—visual language derived from living systems—evoking organic growth and interconnectedness through converging, petal-like structures.

Through repetition and symmetry, the work explores relationships defined by contrast and cooperation. The inward-facing elements create a sense of contained energy, inviting viewers to consider how we coexist as individuals while contributing to a shared collective presence.
